My Silly World

Written by Zach Pratt.
A Collection of Intentional Oddities. 140 Pages of Human Poetry & Digital Ink Sketches.
My Silly World: Adventures, Imagination, & Observations is a collection of traditional rhyming verse and minimalist #000000 black line art. Rooted in a lifetime of curious looking, these pages blend the reality of family life with the boundless reaches of imagination. From the quiet rhythms of home and family to the strange, soaring "odd angles" of the mind, this book captures the essence of what it means to be a Senior Adventure Specialist. It is a celebration of the small things we notice when we slow down—the tilt of a dog's head, the view through imagination, and the humor found in the everyday.Inside this collection:Life & Family: Heartfelt and humorous poems drawn from the author’s own experiences and loved ones.
Pure Imagination: Flights of fancy that take you to whimsical places where the rules of the "normal" world don't apply.
Quiet Observations: Minimalist line sketches that prove how much story lives in a single, stark black line.Whether you are a lover of modern art, a fan of rhythmic poetry, or someone who finds the extraordinary in the ordinary, My Silly World invites you to see through the eyes of an observer who knows that life is best lived with a bit of a wink.

8 years of "someday" vs. 60 days of "every day."
How I finally finished my homework. 📐
Eight years ago, I was struck with inspiration for a single poem.It was one of those moments of inspiration where the words just felt right. In that moment, I made a silent vow to myself: Someday, I'm going to write a book. But "someday" is a dangerous word. As a high school teacher and coach, my days are already spoken for. But more importantly, as a husband and a father of four, my "free time" doesn't really belong to me. "Someday" was constantly buried under the weight of the daily grind - grading, practice schedules, laundry, and the beautiful, exhausting chaos of raising a family of six.
For seven years, I lived in that trap. I'd write a poem when the mood struck - maybe once or twice a year when the house was finally quiet. By late 2025, I had about 15 poems to show for nearly a decade of dreaming. At that rate, I would have finished my book sometime in the year 2110.
The Pivot
A few months ago, something shifted. I realized that if I ever wanted to hold a finished book in my hands, I had to stop waiting for "inspiration" to find a gap in my schedule. I had to stop waiting for the kids to grow up or the season to end.
I tell my players and my students the same thing every day: Consistency is the key to success. It was time to listen to my own coaching. I made a vow to myself and my family: At least one poem every single day until my book was finished.
I stopped waiting for the "perfect" thought. I just sat at my computer and wrote. I wrote in the early mornings before the kids woke up; I wrote in the quiet minutes after the house finally settled at night. Some days the poems flowed; other days, it was like pulling teeth. But I didn't miss a day.
The 150-Poem Sprint
In about two months, I did what I hadn't been able to do in nearly a decade. By sticking to that daily discipline, I went from 15 poems to 150.
By early January, the collection was "finished." I took those 150 poems and ruthlessly trimmed them down to the best 126. These were the pieces that captured the things we so often take for granted, but become interesting when viewed from a different angle. My kids were my primary fuel; I found endless inspiration in the "silly" things they did every single day - the things that usually get lost in the noise of the daily grind, but deserve to be frozen in a poem.
Founding Odd Angle Press
It was at this stage, as I began looking into the world of publishing, that the vision changed again.
I didn't just want to find a publisher; I wanted to build something. Odd Angle Press wasn't a long-held dream or a folder sitting on my desktop for years; it was a decision made in the trenches of finishing this book. I knew the major publishing houses would likely reject my work, and even if I found one willing to take it, it could be years before the book actually saw the light of day. I wanted to create something I was in control of. I started researching the best ways to handle printing and distribution myself, and that's where Odd Angle Press was formed - a home for my work that ensures the vision remains exactly what it needs to be, on a timeline I control.
The Digital Alchemy
Since I'm a one-man press balancing a career and a family of six, I had to be efficient. I used the best tools available to bridge the gap between my vision and the finished page.
The Art: I had the initial ideas for the sketches already, but I lacked the technical artistic ability to put them on paper. I used AI as my digital sketchbook to bring those visions to life. I described my ideas in prompts and, through hundreds of iterations and refined instructions, I worked until the AI produced a foundation I liked. The Edit: Once I had that foundation, the manual work began. I took those images into a photo editing app where I erased, drew, and enhanced the lines by hand. This was the only way to ensure they were crisp, minimalist, and perfectly matched the soul of the poetry. The Education: I also leaned on AI to navigate the steep learning curve of the publishing world. It helped me learn how to properly draft a copyright page, the nuances of securing my own ISBNs, the process of submitting a formal copyright application, and all the granular details of book production I previously knew nothing about. The Logistics: Between bells at school and bedtime at home, I used that knowledge to build the website, create promo videos, and manage the technical logistics of IngramSpark and KDP.Why I'm Sharing This
I'm a high school teacher, a coach, a husband, and a dad who finally decided to finish his homework. My Silly World is the result of that homework.
On March 1st, the 8-year journey officially ends, and the 70-Day Tour begins. Every weekday for 14 weeks, I'll be sharing a poem and a sketch from the collection on youtube and instagram. I hope you'll join me for the ride. It took me 8 years to get to the starting line - I'm not planning on slowing down now.
